Rabbi Hillel Lavery-Yisraeli
The Concept of Family in Jewish Tradition and its Limits in Shaping IdentityVancouver born Rabbi Hillel Lavery-Yisraeli joined Beth Jacob in August 2015 after having served as chief rabbi of Gothenburg, Sweden for three years.
As a teenager, he left home to study at a rabbinical seminary in Skokie, Illinois, before moving to Israel at the age of 19 to continue his studies. Ordained by the Jerusalem Rabbinate in 1996, Lavery-Yisraeli also studied Jewish philosophy at Bar Ilan University.Before that, he was the rabbi of a large Masorti/Conservative congregation in Netanya, and a teacher of Talmud and other Judaic fields at the Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem. He has authored numerous articles.
