Privacy, Confidentiality and Ethics in Genealogy
As all genealogists know, we eventually become the guardians of much information, most of which is personal. We are often tempted to display this information at meetings, conferences and even on the internet in an attempt to find people searching for the same family.

In considering how far and wide to cast our net we encounter the confidentiality dilemma. How can we use our information without violating people`s privacy.

David Malamed is a Partner with Grant Thornton LLP’s Forensic Accounting and Investigative Services practice. He works with a variety of clients including private and public companies large and small, Municipality Police Fraud Squads, government agencies and non profit agencies investigating and managing risk with a focus on computer assisted forensic investigation. David specializes in “DART” (Database Analysis Reveal Technology), which assists in tracking, identifying and monitoring transactions, assets and overall system analysis.

David, who has also served as an Ontario University instructor, has given a number of lectures, both in the areas of fraud detection as well as genealogy
