Please join us on Sunday March 19th for a joint meeting with the Temple Anshe Sholom’s Breakfast Club (there is a charge if you have breakfast), as we present a special screening of the film Mum. Created by York University English professor, Julia Creet, this 37 minute film is part literary detective story and part personal journey. It is drawn from Professor Creet’s mother’s memoirs, letters and poems - an archive of a survivor who left a paper trail to her hidden Jewish past. The trail leads to Hungary, where local memory reveals the surprising story her mother tried to forget. is
Dr. Julia Creet is a powerhouse on the English academic scene. She has taught at a number of Universities across Canada and in Sweden. She has made 150 scholarly and professional contributions over the years including co-editing 2 books and contributing introductions and chapters to 14 others.
Her documentary Mum was released to critical acclaim in 2008 and she has just completed her 2nd film, Data Mining the Deceased: Ancestry and the Business of Family which had its preview screening in April 2016, and will be broadcast on TVO during the 2016 -2017 season.
